The big favorite didn't miss

The star of the Spanish national team, Alexia Putellas, took home the third Ballon d'Or of her career at this year's ceremony, cementing her status as one of the great legends of women's soccer. The Catalan midfielder was the heavy favorite throughout the season and confirmed it on stage.

Pajor and Dumornay, the main challengers

The Spaniard prevailed in a star-studded field that had her teammate Ewa Pajor, Haiti's Melchie Dumornay and England's Alessia Russo as her main rivals. Pajor established herself as Europe's most lethal forward: she racked up 31 goals and 12 assists in 40 games across all competitions, and finished as the Champions League top scorer with 11 goals in 10 matches to power Barcelona to the European title. Dumornay, meanwhile, emerged as a dominant force in French and European football, leading the line for Lyon with 22 goals and 12 assists, and carried her side all the way to the Champions League final.
