Ronaldo Sells Real Valladolid After Disastrous Season
End of an era at José Zorrilla. Ronaldo Nazário, president of the Board of Directors and majority shareholder of Real Valladolid, has confirmed the sale of his controlling stake in the club to a U.S.-based investment group backed by a European financial fund. The deal comes on the heels of a forgettable 2024/25 season in which the team managed to collect just 16 points.

A Project That Never Took Off
Ronaldo arrived in Valladolid on September 3, 2018, with promises of taking the club to new heights. He acquired 51% of the shares for around $30 million dollars and assumed the role of board president. His tenure was a rollercoaster: the club achieved promotion to La Liga twice but also suffered two relegations.
Far from establishing a stable and competitive football project, Valladolid has stumbled through recent seasons. This past campaign was the final straw: the team lost its way, finished second-to-last, recorded 29 defeats, and scored only 26 goals. Ronaldo’s management was heavily criticized and ultimately severed his connection with the fanbase.
Growing Distance and Discontent
The Brazilian legend disengagement from the club became more apparent over time. His presence at José Zorrilla was nearly nonexistent during the season, with only one visit registered in March, ahead of the match against Valencia. Meanwhile, fan frustration grew, with banners reading “Ronaldo go home” becoming a common sight in the stands. Even public figures like Minister Óscar Puente openly called for his departure.

An Unexpected Yet Welcome Exit
Although rumors of a potential sale had intensified following the club’s mathematical relegation, the official announcement came this Friday as a surprise. For many Pucela supporters, it’s the only positive news in a season best forgotten.
With new investors at the helm, a fresh chapter begins for Real Valladolid. Time will tell if this change can finally bring about a solid football project capable of returning the club to the top tier of Spanish football.
