Premier League Lean Towards Keeping VAR
In the upcoming vote on June 6th, where the future of VAR for the next season will be debated, the likelihood is that the technology will remain. This initiative, proposed by Wolverhampton Wanderers, appears to be more of a protest aimed at improving its protocol and usage rather than an attempt to remove it.
Teams generally want VAR to continue but advocate for changes and improvements to address the issues it caused this season, which have led to a loss of credibility in the technology and the refereeing body (PGMOL).
"I don't think the club will vote against VAR. I think it will vote on how it is used, because it is definitely not being used properly," Klopp said this Friday.
"In the way it is used, I would vote against it, because these people don't know how to use it properly," added the German, one of the most critical of the practice and one of the most affected, due to the disallowed legal goal by Luis Díaz against Tottenham Hotspur where VAR did not intervene due to a communication error between the referees.
Furthermore, the Premier League does want VAR and will try to convince clubs in the coming weeks with new proposals and improvements. Therefore, this proposal by Wolves will likely end up as a protest, potentially leading to better changes for the future.
