Neymar Jr. Confirms His Continuity at Santos FC: Will He Return to His Best Level?
Neymar Jr. has decided to extend his contract with Santos FC until December 2025, putting an end to the speculation surrounding a possible departure from the club where his professional career began. With this renewal, the Brazilian star reaffirms his commitment to the team that nurtured his early years.
A Heartfelt Decision
The 33-year-old forward, who returned to Santos in late January after his spell in European football, has had limited playing time due to various injuries. His previous contract was set to expire next week, but both the club and player have now agreed on his continued stay for at least another year and a half.
“I made this decision by listening to my heart,” Neymar said in a message posted on social media. The Copa do Brasil (2010), Copa Libertadores (2011), and Recopa Sudamericana (2012) champion with the Peixe has not ruled out staying even longer.
“Santos is not just my team; it’s my home, my roots, my history, and my life,” added the Olympic gold medalist with Brazil at the 2016 Rio Games. “Here, I stopped being a boy and became a man. I’ll always be grateful because I can be myself and truly happy.”
He concluded with a powerful statement of intent: “I want to fight for every goal and dream in my life, and nothing will stop me. I left, and I came back. Now, I’ve decided to stay where it all started… and where it will never end.”
A Comeback with Setbacks
Since his return to the club, Neymar has played just 14 matches and scored three goals. A series of injuries have kept him sidelined for much of the season, despite his main goal being to fully recover, get back in shape, and enjoy playing again.
In this new chapter, “Ney” was included in both the final preliminary squad under former coach Dorival Júnior and the first squad list under new Brazil manager Carlo Ancelotti.
Neymar is now focused on getting into peak condition to help Santos compete and improve on last season’s struggles. Fans are hopeful he can once again reach the elite level that once made him one of the best players in the world.
