Luis Enrique Says He Doesn’t Wish Ancelotti Success with Brazil and Here’s Why
Luis Enrique, current manager of Paris Saint-Germain, had respectful words for Carlo Ancelotti, who was recently confirmed as the next Brazil national team coach. However, the Spaniard made it clear: he won’t be rooting for the Italian to succeed with the Seleção.
Speaking in a press conference ahead of PSG’s final Ligue 1 match against Auxerre, Luis Enrique explained his reasoning:
“I won’t wish him success, because I want my national team—Spain—to succeed the most.”
While Luis Enrique is no longer in charge of La Roja, which he coached from 2018 to 2022, his allegiance remains strong, and he made no attempt to hide it.
Praise for Ancelotti’s Legacy
Despite his competitive stance, the PSG boss praised Ancelotti’s illustrious career and personality:
“There’s no one with a career like Carlo Ancelotti’s. He’s extraordinary, both on and off the pitch.”
He also embraced the cultural significance of an Italian managing the Brazilian national team, calling it a “positive mix.”
All Eyes on the Champions League
Luis Enrique also touched briefly on PSG’s upcoming UEFA Champions League final against Inter Milan, scheduled for May 31, though he remained focused on the present:
“We’re at our best right now—this is the moment we’ve been working for. We’ll talk about next season later.”
With one eye on continental glory and another on his Spanish roots, Luis Enrique’s words add another layer of intrigue ahead of Carlo Ancelotti’s transition from Real Madrid to the Brazilian bench.
