Joan García’s First Words; The Keeper at the Center of Barcelona’s Latest Controversy
The Spanish goalkeeper arrives in the midst of controversy over Barça’s crowded goalkeeping situation, but he’s clear about his role and ready to fight for his place.
Joan García lived out the day he had been waiting for. The Catalan goalkeeper signed his contract with Barcelona on Friday, a deal that runs through 2031. The signing took place in a private ceremony at the club offices, alongside Joan Laporta, Deco, and members of the board. At just 24, the former Espanyol player becomes one of the reinforcements set to bolster Barça’s new project.

Dreaming big
“When you have such a young team with so many talented players, it’s a really exciting project. I can’t wait to get started and to be part of it,” said Joan after sealing his move to Barça for €25 million plus inflation adjustment. The keeper from Sallent described himself as a “brave” goalkeeper, quick to react and eager to keep improving between the sticks.
🏟️ Now comes the real challenge: the Camp Nou and Barça’s high expectations
After posing in front of a model of the Spotify Camp Nou, which he called “impressive,” the goalkeeper greeted fans outside the club offices, signing autographs before heading out. He knows the hardest part is still ahead: earning a place at a club that has no room for excuses or lengthy adjustment periods.
