The match began at a frenetic pace, and it was Sudan who stunned the favorites early on. In the 6th minute, Aamir Abdallah took advantage of a defensive lapse and finished calmly inside the box, sending Sudan into a surprise lead. The goal energized the Sudanese side, who defended with discipline and looked to threaten on the counterattack.
Senegal, however, gradually imposed their experience and control. With greater possession and pressure in midfield, their equalizer arrived in the 29th minute. Pape Gueye stepped up with a powerful long-range strike that beat the goalkeeper and brought Senegal level, restoring confidence to the West African giants.
As halftime approached, Senegal increased the tempo, sensing Sudan’s defensive fatigue. Their persistence was rewarded in stoppage time of the first half when Pape Gueye struck again, this time finishing a well-constructed move to make it 2–1. The goal proved decisive and shifted the momentum firmly in Senegal’s favor.
In the second half, Sudan showed determination and heart, pushing forward in search of an equalizer. Despite their efforts, Senegal’s organized defense and game management prevented clear chances, allowing them to protect their lead until the final whistle.
The result confirms Senegal’s status as one of the tournament’s strongest contenders, while Sudan exits with respect after a competitive display. Goals from Aamir Abdallah for Sudan and Pape Gueye and Ibrahim Mbaye for Senegal defined a memorable AFCON encounter decided by fine margins and decisive moments.
