Nigeria Hold Off Fierce Tunisia at AFCON 2025
In a match that ended in dramatic fashion, Nigeria had chances to win comfortably but ultimately had to withstand a strong late push from a resilient Tunisia.
Nigeria vs Tunisia looked like the most attractive fixture of the matchday, and it delivered. The Fez Stadium hosted a thrilling encounter full of goals and emotion between the two strongest teams in Group C of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Nigeria Had Chances to Rout Tunisia
Unlike their opening match, where Victor Osimhen struggled to find clear opportunities, the Nigerian striker missed several chances in a dominant first half in which the Super Eagles controlled proceedings but lacked efficiency in front of goal.
It seemed Nigeria might go into the break scoreless until Osimhen finally broke the deadlock in the 44th minute. Tunisia failed to respond after halftime, and the match looked set for a comfortable Nigerian win following goals from Wilfred Ndidi and Ademola Lookman.

Tunisia’s Unexpected Fightback Against Nigeria
The match shifted in the final third when Talbi pulled one back, reigniting hope for the Carthage Eagles, who not only closed the gap but began to assert themselves.
Belief grew further when the referee awarded a penalty, which Abdi converted to make it an astonishing 3–2, a result that suggests Tanzania and Uganda may find qualification difficult in this group.
