Nigeria Could Set an Impressive Scoring Record at AFCON 2025
The Super Eagles are the highest-scoring team in the AFCON 2025 group stage, finishing with a perfect record.
The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which you can watch live on beIN SPORTS, delivered an exciting group stage, and Nigeria stood out for its attacking power, a performance that is already making history in Africa’s premier national team tournament.
Nigeria and Ivory Coast’s historic goal mark
Nigeria have scored an impressive eight goals in just three group-stage matches, something that had not happened since 2008, according to OPTA data.
The Super Eagles are averaging 2.7 goals per match after only three games played. A scoring rate like this has not been seen since 2008, when Ivory Coast achieved the same average, but over the course of six matches.

In that edition, the Elephants played three group-stage matches, followed by the quarterfinals, semifinals — where they lost to Egypt — and the third-place match.
In the current edition, Nigeria begin the knockout stage in the Round of 16, where they will face Mozambique, with their sixth match potentially coming in the semifinals.
Who are Nigeria’s top scorers at AFCON 2025?
So far, Nigeria’s leading scorers at AFCON 2025 are Ademola Lookman and Raphael Onyedika, both with two goals.
As if that weren’t enough, Lookman is also among the tournament’s assist leaders alongside his teammate Alex Iwobi, with both registering two assists each.
