One of the biggest surprises of AFCON 2025 so far has been the outright elimination of Gabon, even before the third and final game of Group F has been played.

The tournament has been a veritable disaster for the Panthers, who began with a loss to Cameroon and proceeded to hand Mozambique its first ever AFCON finals victory in a shock 3-2 loss.

This has given a golden opportunity to Ivory Coast to defeat Gabon in Wednesday’s live match on beIN SPORTS, and achieve a key aim for coach Emerse Fae, as he looks to defend his team’s famous AFCON 2023 title. “Our goal is to finish at the top of Group F,” said Fae, “which would allow us to play our Round of 16 fixture right here in Marrakech.”

Fae will also be looking for more productivity up front with only two goals being scored and both by the same footballer, Manchester United’s Amad Diallo. However, another goal against Gabon would make Diallo the first Ivorian to score in all three group matches at a single AFCON tournament.

The two teams met recently in 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying. Ivory Coast defeated Gabon at home and drew 0-0 away, in a campaign that ultimately saw the Elephants reach next summer’s finals.
