The Warriors Strike Back
Zimbabwe, needing a win to advance to the Round of 16 for the first time in their history, refused to back down. Their persistence paid off in the 18th minute when Tawanda Maswanhise leveled the score. Capitalizing on a lapse in the South African defense, Maswanhise calmly slotted the ball into the bottom-left corner.
The drama intensified as Lyle Foster restored South Africa's lead shortly after the break, only for Zimbabwe to level again in the 74th minute under bizarre circumstances—a deflected effort that left Ronwen Williams helpless.

Appollis Seals Qualification from the Spot
With the score deadlocked at 2–2 and the clock ticking toward the 80th minute, the pressure was immense. South Africa were awarded a penalty in the 82nd minute following a clumsy challenge in the box. Oswin Appollis stepped up and showed ice-cold composure, stroking the ball past veteran keeper Washington Arubi to make it 3–2.
Despite late pressure from Zimbabwe, Hugo Broos’s side held firm. The victory takes South Africa to six points, comfortably securing their path forward, while Zimbabwe exits the tournament with their heads held high after a valiant effort in the "Group of Death."
