Achraf Hakimi, a Potential AFCON Title and a Year That Could Be Perfect
Achraf Hakimi, star of Morocco and Paris Saint-Germain, is on the verge of another major trophy that could make 2025 the best year of his career.
Seasons filled with silverware once seemed reserved for icons like Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo, but the Africa Cup of Nations has placed Hakimi on the brink of a historic campaign that firmly cements him among the elite of world football.
Achraf Hakimi’s Achievements with Morocco
The Moroccan full-back, alongside Brahim Díaz, has been a leader for the Atlas Lions, who have already secured qualification for the 2026 World Cup and are now fighting to win the second AFCON title in the nation’s history.
Hakimi, the captain of Morocco, was unable to play the entire AFCON due to an injury suffered in the UEFA Champions League, but that setback did not diminish his influence or leadership. His impact was such that he was named African Footballer of the Year, finishing ahead of stars like Victor Osimhen and Mohamed Salah.

Achraf Hakimi and an Unforgettable Year with PSG
At 27 years old, the PSG full-back completed a remarkable 2025, winning a historic treble with Ligue 1, the Coupe de France, and the Champions League under head coach Luis Enrique. Hakimi played 55 matches, scoring 11 goals and providing 14 assists, including the opening goal in the 5–0 thrashing of Inter in the Champions League final in Munich.
His trophy cabinet also includes the Intercontinental Cup victory over Flamengo, despite missing that match due to the injury he later managed during AFCON 2025.
At club level, his outstanding performances earned him a place in the FIFA World XI, the Champions League Team of the Season, and the Club World Cup Best XI, further underlining a year that could go down as the finest of his career.
