An electrifying match at the Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium, where the Mali national team secured a 2-1 victory over Burkina Faso, earning a spot in the quarterfinals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The game kicked off with fireworks as early as the 3โ of the first half, with an own goal by Edmond Tapsoba giving Mali a 1-0 lead in the opening moments.
Later, in the second half at the 47โ, 24-year-old Lassine Sinayoko extended Mali's lead, making it 2-0โa score that seemed unlikely for Burkina Faso to overcome.
However, Burkina Faso didn't back down, narrowing the gap to 2-1 in the 57โ with a penalty scored by Bertrand Traorรฉ.
Despite their efforts, Mali held on to the lead, securing a 2-1 victory and advancing to the AFCON quarterfinals. Now, they will face the host nation, which recently eliminated Senegal (the reigning champion), Ivory Coast.
