Tanzania and Guinea-Bissau begin their 2027 AFCON Qualifiers campaigns with a Group L encounter in Zanzibar. The hosts have already secured their place at next year's tournament, but their opponents face an important challenge in a group that also includes Nigeria and Madagascar.
Tanzania will face Guinea-Bissau this Friday, September 25, at New Amaan Complex in Zanzibar, Tanzania, in Matchday 1 of the 2027 AFCON Qualifiers. The match will be broadcast LIVE at 9:00 AM ET / 6:00 AM PT on beIN SPORTS.
How Tanzania arrive
Tanzania begin their qualifying campaign under head coach Miguel Gamondi, with their participation in AFCON 2027 already guaranteed as one of the tournament's three co-hosts.
The Taifa Stars reached the Round of 16 at AFCON 2025, their first appearance in the competition's knockout stage, before losing 1-0 to eventual finalists Morocco.
Gamondi has been preparing his squad for the opening matches with players such as Simon Msuva, Kibu Dennis, Cyprian Kachwele and Sabri Kondo joining the national team camp.
After facing Guinea-Bissau, Tanzania will travel to meet Madagascar on September 29.
How Guinea-Bissau arrive
Guinea-Bissau begin their campaign under Emiliano Té, aiming to return to the Africa Cup of Nations after missing the 2025 edition.
The Djurtus previously qualified for four consecutive tournaments between 2017 and 2023 but have yet to record a victory at the finals.
Té's squad includes Álvaro Djaló, who has been recalled to the national team, alongside Mama Baldé, Franculino Djú and Alfa Semedo.
The opening international window will be particularly demanding for Guinea-Bissau. After visiting Tanzania, they will host Nigeria on September 29.
A key match to start the qualifiers
Tanzania and Guinea-Bissau share Group L with Nigeria and Madagascar.
Because Tanzania have already qualified as co-hosts, only the highest-placed team among the other three nations will secure an additional place at AFCON 2027.
That makes the opening fixture particularly important for Guinea-Bissau, who will need to collect points in a six-match campaign that includes two meetings with Nigeria.
For Tanzania, the qualifiers provide competitive preparation ahead of the tournament they will jointly host with Kenya and Uganda from June 19 to July 17, 2027.
