Egypt Stumble at Home in AFCON 2027 Qualifying Debut

Egypt opened their AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign with a result that was likely not part of the plan. The Pharaohs drew 0-0 against Angola at Cairo International Stadium, dropping two points in their opening Group B match.

Hossam Hassan’s side had several chances to break the deadlock but once again struggled to finish them. Mohamed Salah, Mostafa Ziko, and Omar Marmoush were involved in some of the most dangerous moments, while Angola found a way to stay in the game and leave Cairo with a point.

Ziko Scores, but the Goal Does Not Count

The first half featured one of the moments that could have completely changed the match. Mostafa Ziko found the back of the net, but the goal was ruled out for offside. Egypt therefore lost one of their best opportunities to take the lead.

The hosts had already created danger through Mahmoud Saber, who had a good chance inside the box, and a shot from Mohamed Salah that forced goalkeeper Hugo into a save. Angola also had opportunities, with Mabululu coming close to catching Egypt off guard after a defensive mistake.

Angola Holds Firm and Makes Life Difficult for the Pharaohs

After the break, Egypt took even more control and looked for spaces against a well-organized Angolan defense. The Pharaohs had the ball for much of the game but could not turn that control into the goal they needed.

Omar Marmoush came on looking to provide an attacking spark and came close on more than one occasion. Ramy Rabia also threatened with a header, while Hugo made another important save as the game entered its decisive stages. Angola held on until the final whistle and kept a clean sheet.

Egypt Settle for One Point and Leave With Work to Do

The 0-0 draw leaves Egypt with mixed feelings. The team created enough chances to win, but lacked the finishing needed to break the deadlock. Against a side that focused on defending and attacking the spaces left open, the Pharaohs repeatedly ran into the same wall.

The result also keeps Egypt unbeaten against Angola, although that historical record does little to change the feeling around the draw. In a group where every point could matter, starting at home with a stalemate means the Pharaohs will need a quick response.
