The story that will take a Mexican couple to share cycling’s biggest stage
Following a performance that left its mark on Mexican cycling, a new figure is preparing to compete against the world’s elite. Her participation will turn the next edition of the French race into a very special chapter for Mexico.
Mexican cycling will once again be represented on one of the most important stages of the international calendar. Following Isaac del Toro’s participation in the men’s competition, Romina Hinojosa will compete in the 2026 Tour de France Femmes.
The 23-year-old cyclist, who is also Del Toro’s girlfriend, will have the opportunity to compete alongside some of the biggest names in the international peloton and become part of an unusual story for Mexican sports: a couple representing the country in both the men’s and women’s editions of the French race.
A Mexican cyclist forging her own path
The Mexican rider has developed across different disciplines, including road racing, time trials and endurance events, while also representing her country in competitions included on the Union Cycliste Internationale calendar.
Her participation in France will represent one of the most important steps of her career and an opportunity to establish herself among the leading figures in Mexican women’s cycling.
A passion they also share away from competition
Romina Hinojosa and Isaac del Toro have shared several moments of preparation and training throughout their respective seasons.
While the Ensenada-born cyclist has become one of Mexico’s brightest talents on the international stage, Hinojosa has continued to progress and has now earned a place in the biggest stage race in women’s cycling.
Their presence will allow Mexico to be represented in both the men’s and women’s Tour de France, something rarely seen in the recent history of Mexican cycling.
A challenge against the world’s elite
The 2026 Tour de France Femmes will bring together some of the best cyclists in the world, including Pauline Ferrand-Prévot, Demi Vollering and Katarzyna Niewiadoma.
The route will feature an individual time trial, the demanding climb up Mont Ventoux and a mountainous finale in Nice, making the race an enormous challenge for every competitor.
Mexico will have a new representative in France
After Del Toro made his mark in the men’s edition, Mexico’s attention will now turn to the women’s competition.
