Isaac del Toro continues to produce a memorable performance in his first appearance at the Tour de France.

The Mexican cyclist faced one of the most important days of the competition during Stage 16, an individual time trial that had the potential to significantly reshape the general classification before the decisive part of the race.

Although time trials are not his main specialty, Del Toro managed to handle the pressure, limit his losses to his direct rivals and retain a privileged position.

A time trial that could change everything

Stage 16 featured a 26-kilometer individual course between Évian-les-Bains and Thonon-les-Bains in the French Alps.

The route combined flat sections with a climb of approximately nine kilometers at an average gradient of 4.3%, forcing the riders to manage their efforts without the support of their teammates.

In this format, the cyclists started in reverse order of the general classification, with each rider competing individually against the clock.

How did Isaac del Toro perform in Stage 16?

The UAE Team Emirates rider made an impressive start and recorded one of the fastest times at the first checkpoint.

Del Toro crossed the finish line in 33 minutes and 40 seconds, a result that allowed him to finish fifth in the stage.

The performance was particularly valuable because time trialing is not considered one of his greatest strengths.

Remco Evenepoel won the stage with a time of 32 minutes and 19 seconds, while Tadej Pogačar finished second in 32 minutes and 47 seconds.
