Sprint Results and the Canadian Grand Prix Starting Grid
Mercedes Finishes the Sprint With a Clash Between Teammates
George Russell won the Sprint in Canada after leading all 23 laps from pole position and controlling the race from start to finish. The British driver crossed the finish line 1.272 seconds ahead of Lando Norris.
But the story unfolded inside Mercedes. Kimi Antonelli started from P2 and from the opening laps began pressuring Russell for the lead.
The first attempt came on lap 5, when the Italian tried to overtake around the outside through Turns 2 and 3. There was slight contact between both drivers and Antonelli ended up off track. Later, he tried again through Turns 8 and 9, but went too deep under braking and had to run wide once more.
Kimi asked over team radio for a penalty against Russell, although Race Control decided not to investigate the incident. The Italian’s frustration continued until the end of the Sprint, even after Toto Wolff told him over the radio that those matters should be resolved “at home.”
