Sergio "Checo" Pérez and the Dilemma With Cadillac and the Points in Formula 1
The Mexican driver did not have the comeback that was expected and is facing problems, as is his team in scoring points
The return of Checo Pérez
Sergio Pérez returned to Formula 1 with the new team entering the grid, Cadillac, and it is expected that the Mexican will score points, although so far it has not happened as everyone expected and his redemption arc has not yet taken shape.
The beginning of Formula 1 for Cadillac and Checo Pérez
The driver from Guadalajara arrived at this Formula 1 season with a myriad of changes due to the new regulations imposed by the FIA for this year 2026, but he is also leading a new project that is taking its first steps in the category. In the first races of the season, both in Australia and China, the Mexican was far from scoring points and, therefore, from the top 10 positions. It was one of the possible outcomes considering the novelty of the Cadillac team.
Andretti on the car and the prospects
However, Mario Andretti, board member of the racing team, spoke about Cadillac's realistic expectations on the podcast Drive to Wynn: "In qualifying, we were four seconds behind; now, two. It's still a big difference, but it's a good step forward," highlights Andretti.
The season is long, and Checo Pérez's career is also long, which does not rule out a possible finish among the top ten that would earn a point for the Mexican driver or the American team, especially given how chaotic this season is proving to be.
