Michael Schumacher’s Iconic Helmet to Be Auctioned While He Remains Out of Public Eye — Here’s What We Know
While his state of health remains a mystery, one of Michael Schumacher's most iconic helmets will be put up for auction along with other historic Formula 1 memorabilia.
A legendary helmet amidst mystery
Schumacher's state of health being a guarded secret, one of his most precious objects will be put up for auction: his iconic helmet from his first golden era in Formula 1, in the mid-1990s.
This helmet, with which the seven-time world champion achieved a key victory in his F1 career, will be one of the most coveted items at the upcoming auction “The Champions - Schumacher & F1 Legends” organized by Sotheby's from July 23 to 30.
With estimated values ranging between $50,000 and $70,000 dollars, although the final price is expected to be much higher, given the almost mythical figure that Schumacher represents for motorsport fans.
Beyond the helmet: 300 pieces of history
The event will bring together more than 300 unique items belonging to Formula 1 greats. In addition to Schumacher's helmet, suits, boots, watches and mechanical parts related to legends such as Ayrton Senna, Lewis Hamilton, Gilles Villeneuve, Charles Leclerc and many more will be auctioned.
One of the most prominent lots includes the helmet worn by Schumacher in the 1997 Monaco GP, victory year with Ferrari, priced between $40,000 and $60,000.
Schumacher, more present than ever
More than a decade after his skiing accident, Michael Schumacher remains out of the public eye, but his legacy is still intact. The interest in pieces such as his helmet or his racing suit shows that the respect and admiration for his career is more alive than ever.
This auction is not only an opportunity to acquire historic pieces, but also a window to remember the driver who defined an era in Formula 1.
