McLaren on Brink of Historic F1 Constructors’ Title at Azerbaijan Grand Prix
McLaren is poised to clinch its second straight F1 constructors’ crown in Baku, newly positioned to smash points records and outpace rivals Ferrari, Mercedes, and Red Bull.
With an astonishing 617 points and a 337-point lead over Ferrari, McLaren enters Azerbaijan with control over the title chase and championship permutations.
Eight races and three sprints remain, offering a maximum of 389 points to be won across the rest of the season.
For McLaren to wrap up the championship in Baku, it needs to be 346 points ahead of second-place Ferrari by race’s end—a feat achievable if Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris deliver a 1-2 finish on race day.
Should their rivals, especially Ferrari, outperform in Baku, the team will only need to outscore Ferrari by nine points or avoid outscores by Mercedes (no more than 11 points) and Red Bull (no more than 32 points) to mathematically clinch the title.
Given Ferrari’s winless run this season, McLaren’s route to celebration looks clearer than ever.
Dominance in Numbers: Chasing a Thousand Points
McLaren’s relentless consistency, anchored by Norris and Piastri, has created one of the most dominant seasons in Formula 1 history.
If the squad maintains its current pace, projections point toward a possible 925 points by year’s end—flying past Red Bull’s previous record haul of 860 points in 2023.
Remarkably, the 1000-point barrier remains theoretically within reach if McLaren sweeps the remaining rounds with top results, reinforcing the team’s technical strength and driver excellence.
Rival Scenarios: What Each Team Needs
Ferrari, led by Leclerc and Hamilton, is left needing either McLaren to falter or to stage a comeback with victories that have eluded them so far in 2025.
Mercedes and Red Bull, both further adrift, now bank on extraordinary scenarios in Azerbaijan to remain in contention, relying on race wins and podiums while hoping McLaren’s scoring stalls.
With the midfield packed and competition high, Baku stands as the pivotal race for crowning McLaren champions—potentially rewriting F1’s statistical history.
