Max Verstappen Wins the United States Grand Prix and Closes In on Championship Lead
Max Verstappen of Red Bull claimed victory at the United States Grand Prix in Austin, securing his fifth win of the season and closing in on the top spot in the Formula 1 World Championship.
Verstappen Dominates in Austin
Four-time world champion Max Verstappen once again proved why he remains one of the most dominant figures in motorsport. The Red Bull driver, 28, triumphed at the United States Grand Prix, held on Sunday at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas. The Dutchman’s performance earned him his 68th career Formula 1 victory and fifth of the 2025 season.
Verstappen crossed the finish line ahead of Lando Norris of McLaren, who continues to impress with his consistency, and Charles Leclerc of Ferrari, who rounded out the podium. Behind them came Lewis Hamilton (Ferrari) in fourth and Oscar Piastri (McLaren) in fifth, as the Australian maintained his lead in the world championship standings.
Spanish driver Fernando Alonso, representing Aston Martin, finished tenth, while his compatriot Carlos Sainz (Williams) was forced to retire on lap seven due to technical issues.
Piastri Holds Lead, But Verstappen Closes the Gap
Following this result, Oscar Piastri remains at the top of the standings with 346 points, 14 ahead of Norris and 40 in front of Verstappen, with just five races remaining in the season.
Elsewhere in the top ten, George Russell (Mercedes) and Yuki Tsunoda (Red Bull) finished sixth and seventh, respectively. Nico Hülkenberg (Kick Sauber) and young British driver Oliver Bearman (Haas) also scored valuable points, finishing eighth and ninth.
Argentine driver Franco Colapinto of Alpine came home in 17th after a challenging day in Texas. All attention now turns to the next stop on the calendar — the Mexican Grand Prix, set to take place next weekend at the iconic Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City.
As the season heads into its decisive stretch, Max Verstappen looks determined to keep closing the gap and fight for the Formula 1 World Championship title.
