Max Verstappen Reveals Secrets Behind His Training
Max Verstappen Will Start Second at the Miami Grand Prix and appears to have regained his form. The Dutch driver recently spoke with Men’s Health and explained some of the secrets behind his physical preparation, also revealing why he doesn’t particularly enjoy training despite being one of the most dominant drivers in Formula 1.
In the interview, Verstappen stated that one of the parts of his body he works on the most is his neck. “Mad Max” has one of the strongest necks on the grid, something essential in a category where G-forces are extreme. He explained that he performs intense gym sessions using harnesses and specific repetitions to strengthen that area, which is crucial for handling the acceleration and heavy braking produced by the cars.
Heavy braking, direction changes, and constant acceleration demand great physical endurance. Having a strong neck not only prevents injuries but also allows him to maintain proper posture and react precisely in every corner.
Additionally, Verstappen mentioned that he works a lot on reaction time and coordination, although now in a simpler way. After so many years in motorsport, he believes muscle memory plays a key role. That’s why, rather than focusing on overly complex routines, he prioritizes spending time behind the wheel and refining his connection with the car.
Difficult Start and Improvement in Miami
This season did not start in the best way for the Dutchman. He was one of the most critical drivers regarding the new Formula 1 rules and systems, as he struggled to adapt to the car’s behavior. In the opening races, he finished sixth in Australia, retired in China, and placed eighth in Japan—unusual results for Red Bull.
However, the long break allowed the team to work on significant improvements. In Miami, they introduced a new aerodynamic package, and Verstappen said he feels much more comfortable. He qualified second, just behind the Mercedes of Kimi Antonelli, the championship leader.
Additionally, the possibility of rain for the race could work in his favor. Verstappen is one of the strongest drivers in difficult conditions and already has eight victories on wet tracks. If the weather changes in Miami, “Mad Max” could have the ideal scenario to fight for the win once again.
