Max Verstappen Denies Losing Interest in Formula 1
- Max Verstappen has strongly rejected claims that he lost interest in Formula 1 during Red Bull’s early-season struggles, reaffirming his hunger for a fifth world title.
In comments that have stirred debate, Red Bull senior advisor Helmut Marko suggested that Max Verstappen lost some motivation earlier this season when the team was noncompetitive.
Marko even claimed Verstappen showed more interest in GT racing during that period, aiming to keep the driver in a good mood by discussing other motorsport projects.
However, Verstappen quickly dismissed these claims, making it clear he never wavered in focus or dedication. Ahead of the 2025 Mexican Grand Prix, the four-time F1 world champion stressed that regardless of his car’s pace or position on the grid, he commits 100 percent to every race.
“No, I don’t agree,” Verstappen said, emphasizing his professionalism and relentless drive.
Fueled by Recent Success and Positive Pressure
Verstappen’s recent surge in form, including three victories and a podium in the last four races, has brought him back into the title fight with McLaren’s Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris.
After trailing his rival by over 100 points post-summer, Verstappen has cut the deficit to just 40 points, a turnaround he described as “positive pressure”.
The Dutch driver also revealed that his participation in a GT endurance race at the Nürburgring was planned far in advance and not a sign of distraction from Formula 1. He continues to combine his passion for racing with meticulous preparation for each F1 weekend, maintaining his focus on maximizing every opportunity.
Eyes on the Championship Prize

With five races remaining, Verstappen knows the margin for error is razor-thin. He acknowledges he and Red Bull must be “perfect” to claim an unprecedented fifth consecutive drivers’ championship, but his confidence and motivation are evident.
As Red Bull’s car performance improves under new management, Verstappen’s strong finishes highlight why he remains one of the fiercest competitors on the grid.
In rejecting Marko’s insinuation of lost interest, Verstappen reinforced his hunger for victory and commitment to finishing what he started: a historic F1 title run shaped by resilience, talent, and unmatched competitive spirit.
