Max Verstappen Confirms He Is Staying at Red Bull Racing and Explains Why He Kept Quiet About Rumors of a Move to Mercedes
The rumors about the driver's possible departure are over, but now a new question arises regarding his future with Red Bull Racing.
Max Verstappen will continue racing with Red Bull Racing at least until 2026, a piece of news that, while positive for the team’s fans, was not accompanied by an official statement from the team. It was the Dutch driver himself who confirmed his continuation in Formula 1 with Red Bull, dispelling rumors linking him to Mercedes for the 2025 season.
Verstappen never considered leaving Red Bull
In a natural and straightforward statement, Verstappen made it clear he never entertained the idea of switching teams, despite the speculation.
“A lot of nice stories and things like that came up. But, in my case, I never said anything about it because I only focused on talking with the team about how we could improve our performance and about ideas for next year’s car.”
“For me, it’s always been pretty clear that I was going to stay. I think that was also the general opinion within the team, because we were always talking about what we could do with next year’s car. And I think when you’re not interested in staying, you also stop talking about those kinds of things. And I never did.”
Christian Horner’s departure didn’t influence his decision
Recent internal changes at Red Bull, such as Christian Horner’s exit as team principal, did not affect the decision of the current three-time world champion (note: if you want to say “four-time champion,” ensure that information is up to date). Verstappen reiterated that his focus has always been on the future of the car and not on off-track developments.
Will Verstappen dominate after F1 changes?
With the arrival of new Formula 1 regulations in 2026, a big question arises: will Verstappen continue to dominate the category?
The changes will impact both car design and power units, potentially shaking up the current grid order. While Max has confirmed his stay until 2026, his continuation beyond that will depend on the team’s performance under these new rules.
