Lando Norris Wins the Hungarian Grand Prix

Lando Norris finally earned the reward for a season built on consistency. The McLaren driver claimed victory at the 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix, secured his first win of the year, and confirmed the British team's outstanding form in a race that had everything: a brilliant start by McLaren, thrilling battles, retirements, and another podium finish for Max Verstappen.

McLaren Took Control from the Start

The race could not have started any better for McLaren.

Lando Norris defended his pole position into the first corner, but just a few meters later, Oscar Piastri used the impressive pace of the papaya-colored car to overtake both Max Verstappen and his own teammate, briefly taking the lead at Turn 2.

Behind them, Verstappen settled into third place, while the two Ferrari drivers, who started on soft tires, tried to stay in contention against the medium-tire strategy chosen by the rest of the front-runners.

There was also slight contact between Lewis Hamilton and the Red Bull driver during the opening laps, although both continued without major damage.

One of the biggest losers at the start was George Russell, who suffered another poor getaway and dropped from sixth to 19th place.

Norris Never Let Go of the Lead

As the race unfolded, McLaren managed the pace perfectly.

Following the different pit strategies and position changes throughout the race, Lando Norris reclaimed the lead for good and never looked back.

The British driver took the checkered flag after completing the 70 laps of the Hungaroring, earning his first victory of the season and a crucial result in the championship battle.

Max Verstappen once again proved why he remains one of the most consistent drivers on the grid by finishing second, while young Kimi Antonelli completed a strong weekend with another podium finish for Mercedes.

Ferrari Fell Just Short of the Podium

The Ferrari drivers showed competitive pace throughout much of the race, but it was not enough to challenge for the top three positions.

Charles Leclerc finished fourth, just ahead of teammate Lewis Hamilton, who completed the top five after serving the consequences of the grid penalty he received following qualifying.

Further back, Isack Hadjar, George Russell, Liam Lawson, Nico Hülkenberg, and Arvid Lindblad rounded out the top 10 finishers.

Meanwhile, Franco Colapinto struggled to find the pace needed to fight for points and finished 15th, while Sergio Pérez endured another frustrating afternoon after retiring with mechanical problems in his Cadillac, extending a difficult run for the Mexican driver.
