Kimi Antonelli Wins the Miami Grand Prix
Mercedes Dominates in Miami
Kimi Antonelli claimed victory at the Miami Grand Prix, confirming his outstanding form this season. The Mercedes driver secured his third consecutive win, moved to the top of the championship standings, and is emerging as a serious contender for the world title.
Antonelli started from pole position but once again had a difficult launch, losing several positions in the opening laps. However, he managed the race with intelligence and patience. Thanks to an effective strategy and consistent pace, he fought his way back to take the lead on lap 30—a position he never relinquished until crossing the checkered flag.
McLaren Fights Back
Second and third place went to McLaren, a team that continues to confirm its strong resurgence. Lando Norris, the reigning world champion, finished second, while Oscar Piastri completed the podium. It was a highly positive weekend for both drivers, as they secured a 1-2 finish in the sprint race and delivered a key result in the main event, reinforcing the British team’s upward trajectory.
It was a challenging race for Charles Leclerc. The Ferrari driver started third but never found the right rhythm. His car lost competitiveness as the race progressed, and in the final stages, he spun, losing grip and several positions. George Russell capitalized on the situation to finish fourth, while Max Verstappen climbed to fifth after a difficult race for Red Bull.
The Dutch driver had started from second place and expressed confidence in the car before the race. However, he also spun, dropping to ninth at one point before recovering positions in the closing laps.
A Rising Generational Talent
What Antonelli is achieving is remarkable. At just 19 years old, he is showing uncommon maturity and establishing himself as one of the most dominant drivers in the category. With this victory, he now has three consecutive wins and is aiming to become the third Italian to win a world championship—something Italy has not achieved since 1953, when Alberto Ascari was crowned champion.
Mercedes remains in control of the championship with a car that appears to be a step ahead of its rivals. McLaren, meanwhile, has made it clear that it is ready to compete. Norris set the fastest lap and acknowledged they had the pace to win, while also stating that the team will continue working to break the dominance of the German outfit.
Antonelli praised Mercedes’ strategy after the race: “The undercut worked really well and allowed us to finish ahead, although it wasn’t easy.” He also explained that he lost positions at the start due to an energy management error but remained calm to recover and build a convincing victory.
