Charles Leclerc’s emotional radio messages during the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix grabbed headlines as the Ferrari driver struggled to maintain pace after starting from pole. On track, Leclerc initially blamed the team for ignoring his advice regarding an undefined issue that made his car "undrivable."
His agitation was palpable as he expressed frustration over lost competitiveness and a fading chance at victory, even predicting a miracle would be needed to finish on the podium.
However, after the race, Leclerc issued a public retraction of those strong comments. He explained that the problems he felt were ultimately tied to a previously undetected issue with the car’s chassis.
The malfunction gradually worsened from about lap 40 onwards, resulting in a loss of approximately two seconds per lap as the stint progressed. This issue, Leclerc confirmed, was outside the team's control and unrelated to his earlier assumptions.

Additionally, he was penalized five seconds for erratic defensive maneuvers against George Russell, further complicating his race outcome.
The Monegasque driver lamented that Hungary had been Ferrari’s best opportunity to claim a win this season. His perfect first stint and strong early laps in the second stint initially kept him on track to challenge for victory. The chassis trouble, he said, robbed him of this chance, highlighting the fine margins and unpredictability that continue to challenge the Scuderia’s campaign.

Leclerc also addressed the timing of information relayed during the race, noting the difficulty in diagnosing the chassis issue from the team’s data in real-time. He suggested that, had the problem been detectable earlier, the team could have informed him to adjust strategy or driving style to mitigate the impact. The opacity of the issue on telemetry complicated Ferrari’s race management and exacerbated driver frustration.
Despite the setback, Leclerc spoke calmly about the lessons learned and emphasized that such an issue should be an isolated incident in the Ferrari program. His ability to acknowledge fault and later clarify the situation reflects a maturing approach to the pressures of racing at the highest level.
