Break in Formula 1 and Vacation for the Drivers. What Are Hamilton, Verstappen, and Leclerc Doing?
The 22 drivers on the Formula One grid find themselves in the middle of a forced break due to the cancelation of two races because of the global context
Why are they on vacation?
Break in the Formula 1 calendar this month after the FIA, International Automobile Federation, decided under the international context to cancel the races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, which were in the midst of an armed conflict, and after failing to ensure sufficient safety to prioritize the integrity of the teams and Formula One personnel, it was decided not to hold these Grand Prix events. In the midst of this forced break, many drivers decided to take advantage of it.
How is each driver doing?
One of the major protagonists of this break was Lewis Hamilton, who was spotted with Kim Kardashian at the Coachella festival, causing a frenzy on social media after their public appearance.
His teammate Charles Leclerc, on the other hand, decided to spend his days off with his family and his iconic dog, Leo. In the photos he posted on social media, you can see how the driver has stepped away from the racing routine and is trying to enjoy something different during this unusual vacation.
On the McLaren team side, Oscar Piastri had the opportunity to celebrate his birthday during this break, which also coincided with Holy Week, so he celebrated it with an Easter egg shaped like an F1 helmet. His teammate and current world champion, Lando Norris, found himself on the karting track participating in events and, in a way, staying active during this break.
While the veteran of the Mercedes team, George Russell, shared a message on his social media with a photo engaging in outdoor activities in Monte Carlo. The driver reminisced about the lack of racing and expressed his eagerness to return, as well as his longing for home.
On the Williams side, Carlos Sainz also found himself participating in karting events where he tried to stay in shape in some way during this unexpected break in Formula One.
Among the newest in this Formula One is Isaac Hadjar, who made a post about the Japanese Grand Prix where he delved into Japanese culture and can be seen posing in traditional clothing.
While another relatively new driver, the Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto, visited a compatriot who competes in tennis, João Fonseca, in Monte Carlo, he was unfortunately eliminated in the quarter-finals.
Another from the American continent is the Argentine driver Franco Colapinto, who will be the main figure at a Road Show event in the city of Buenos Aires with his Alpine on April 26, creating a lot of anticipation among his compatriots and Latin American motorsport fans.
His teammate, Pierre Gasly, also had the opportunity to visit his country. The French speaker posted images of his French hometown on his social media, which coincides with the same place Esteban Ocon recognizes as home. He was also in France with his family and made a brief television appearance after attending the first leg of the UEFA Champions League match where Paris Saint-Germain beat Liverpool 2-0 in the French capital.
Last but not least is the four-time world champion, Max Verstappen, who collaborated with the clothing brand Alpha Tauri in a promotional manner and declared it was his favorite part of the job. A driver who at the beginning of the season expressed considerable dissatisfaction with the state of the new regulations and Formula One in general.
When are the races renewed and how will it happen?
Once this forced break is over, the races will not be reinstated or postponed; they are canceled, and the total number is reduced from 24 to 22 races this season. The next race of the year will be the Miami Grand Prix, to be held in the first week of May.
