Pompet Closes The Book On Yodlekpet, Thway Lin Htet Breaks Skid At ONE Friday Fights 170

After more than a year of unfinished business, Bangkok's Lumpinee Stadium finally delivered an answer on Friday, September 11, as ONE Friday Fights 170 wrapped up a trilogy rivalry with a clear-cut verdict. It was also followed by a bloody, back-and-forth co-main event that pushed both Muay Thai competitors to their absolute limits.

Pompet Finally Breaks The Deadlock

Two fights and two split decisions couldn't truly separate Pompet Pongsuphan PK and Yodlekpet "The Destroyer" Or Atchariya. However, the third one proved to be decisive, as Pompet claimed a clear-cut unanimous decision in their flyweight Muay Thai trilogy finale.

Pompet dictated range from the opening stanza, mixing jabs with heavy body kicks. He even engaged in the clinch, where he tagged “The Destroyer” with thunderous knees to the head. Meanwhile, his 31-year-old compatriot stayed in the pocket, where he responded with thudding shots to the ribs and a sharp uppercut.

The action only grew more frantic in the second. The 28-year-old Thai standout leaned on his knees to punish Yodlekpet's low stance. “The Destroyer” swung back with looping punches, but only a few found their mark. Pompet would wisely create distance and fire off heavy shots from the outside.

Everything came to a boil in the third and final round, as both men traded with total abandon. But it was Pompet who landed the cleaner shots, including uppercuts and head kicks in the waning seconds of the contest. This time, the judges were unanimous, giving Pompet the victory. With the win, he pushed his career record to 112-48, earned his third straight win, and put this rivalry to bed – for now.

Thway Lin Htet Returns To Form In A Bloody Battle

The co-main event told a different kind of story, as Thway Lin Htet climbed out of a three-fight rut with a gutsy split-decision win over Xavier Gonzalez in a back-and-forth flyweight Muay Thai clash.

Thway Lin Htet set the tone immediately, as he pressed forward with punches, kicks, and all sorts of diverse combinations. But Gonzalez refused to give ground, countering with teeps and straight punches of his own.

Although the Spaniard was growing more confident as the bout wore on, a spinning elbow late in the second round changed the complexion of the fight, opening a deep cut above Gonzalez's eye.

Despite the damage, Gonzalez fought valiantly in the third frame. But the Myanmar striker went on the defensive, cleverly picking his shots and tagging his foe with counters. That, alongside the damage accrued, earned Thway Lin Htet his 33rd career victory.
