ONE Friday Fights 142 Results: Panpadej Remains Perfect, Zhang Cruises Past Barboza, Thom Scores Last-Second Knockout
ONE Championship left fans breathless with ONE Friday Fights 142 at Bangkok's legendary Lumpinee Stadium, featuring 14 heart-racing battles across Muay Thai, kickboxing, and MMA.
Rising Thai star Panpadej NF Looksuan extended his perfect promotional record to 5-0 by grinding past decorated veteran Apiwat Sor Somnuk in a grueling main event war. Also, Scotland’s Gregor Thom authored a stunning last-second knockout in the co-main event and Zhang Peimian inched closer to another crack at the ONE Strawweight Kickboxing World Title in the featured attraction.
Panpadej NF Looksuan proved why he's one of Thailand's brightest young prospects, as he hung tough to claim a majority decision victory over battle-tested compatriot Apiwat Sor Somnuk in the main event. The 24-year-old improved his overall record to an impressive 58-5 while maintaining his perfect 5-0 mark on the ONE Friday Fights series.
Apiwat controlled the opening round of the flyweight Muay Thai clash with crisp counter-striking, landing clean straight lefts that kept the aggressive Panpadej at bay. The veteran's timing and experience shined through as he frustrated his younger opponent's forward pressure. But the tide began shifting in round two when Panpadej found success in the clinch, as he drilled punishing knees into Apiwat's midsection that visibly slowed the 33-year-old down.
Panpadej ramped up his aggression in the final stanza, even attempting a flying knee that Apiwat disrupted with sharp boxing. Undeterred, Panpadej adjusted his approach, becoming more elusive while landing cleaner punches down the stretch. The judges rewarded his sustained pressure and effective body work, handing him the victory and extending his remarkable winning streak.
Thom Delivers Last-Second Knockout
Scotland's Gregor Thom authored one of the year's most dramatic finishes, dropping Donking Yotharakmuaythai with a thunderous right hand at the 2:59 mark of round two – just one second before the bell – in the co-main event. The spectacular knockout improved Thom's record to 27-6 and marked his second highlight-reel finish under the ONE Championship banner.
Thom, who trains out of Aberdeen Combat Centre, opened the flyweight Muay Thai tilt on a strong note, as he hammered Donking's body with heavy punches and fearlessly absorbed his rival’s head shots. Donking seized momentum in the second frame, as he closed the distance with relentless combinations that mixed kicks and punches beautifully. The Thai's sustained assault even opened a cut around Thom's right eye, and the 26-year-old Scot appeared to be losing the round heading into the final seconds.
But Thom remained patient, waiting for his moment. As Donking launched a body kick in the waning seconds of the round, the Scot caught the kick and retaliated with a perfectly timed right cross that sent the Thai crashing to the canvas. Donking could not beat the count, forcing the referee to wave off the contest and hand Thom a stunning come-from-behind victory.
Zhang Cruises Past Barboza
"Fighting Rooster" Zhang Peimian reminded everyone why he challenged for ONE World Title gold in 2022, as he outclassed "El Jefe" Ellis Badr Barboza over three rounds of high-level strawweight kickboxing action in the featured attraction. The Chinese technician improved to 20-5 with a unanimous decision victory.
Barboza brought immediate pressure from the opening bell, marching forward with the high-volume approach that carried him to a ONE Strawweight Muay Thai World Title shot against Prajanchai PongSuphan PK a year ago. But “Fighting Rooster” refused to be overwhelmed. Zhang disrupted the British striker's rhythm with speed and precision, landing a crisp low kick-right hook combination in round one that shifted momentum in his favor.
The second stanza showcased Zhang's tactical brilliance. Instead of engaging in the firefight Barboza wanted, the 22-year-old backed up his opponent and punished him with stabbing body kicks and quick combinations. The Chinese star picked his spots intelligently, forcing the Brit to chase rather than control the action. Zhang maintained his measured approach through the final round, landing probing low kicks and clean three-punch combinations to cruise to the decision win.
