Conor McGregor challenges Floyd Mayweather Jr. to a rematch: here’s the condition
Conor McGregor wants to return to the UFC in 2026 and is looking for a fight that would once again dominate headlines.
Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather Jr. famously faced each other back in 2017, but the Irishman is now seeking a memorable comeback to the UFC. As part of that plan, he has proposed a rematch against the retired American boxer at an unexpected venue: the White House — though with a key condition that Money Mayweather would need to accept.
McGregor vs. Mayweather at the White House? The condition
In 2025, UFC president Dana White and Donald Trump floated the idea of hosting a mixed martial arts event at the White House to mark the 250th anniversary of the United States.
Despite being inactive for a long period, The Notorious has made it clear he wants a rematch with Mayweather, who defeated him in a boxing match. This time, however, McGregor insists the fight must take place under UFC (MMA) rules.

“Sounds great, Dana White, UFC! Floyd Mayweather Jr., when you’re ready for that promised MMA fight, here I am. I hear the White House is a nice place in the summer. Just kidding, Mike (Tyson)! Although… I could fight both of you on the same night. Floyd in MMA? EASY! 10 seconds.”
When was McGregor’s last fight?
The Irish fighter has struggled with a serious injury, having broken his leg in his loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in 2021. Since then, a fight with Michael Chandler was announced but never materialized.
As for Mayweather, he has retired from professional boxing but has remained active through exhibition bouts, including one planned against Mike Tyson.
