Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu experienced one of the most emotional moments of the 2026 Commonwealth Games as she broke down in tears during the medal ceremony after winning her third consecutive gold medal in the women's 48kg event.

In addition to standing atop the podium, Chanu delivered a dominant performance by setting two Commonwealth Games records and finishing comfortably ahead of the rest of the field.

Mirabai Chanu makes history with third straight gold

The 31-year-old lifted 85kg in the snatch, setting a Commonwealth Games record in that discipline.

She then added 105kg in the clean and jerk, another Games record, for a total of 190kg, securing her third consecutive Commonwealth Games title after also winning gold in 2018 and 2022.

Chanu finished 22kg ahead of the competition.

Nigeria's Ruth Asuquo Nyong claimed silver with a total of 168kg (75kg+93kg), while Malaysia's Irene Jane Henry took bronze with 167kg (77kg+90kg).

Mohamad Aniq wins men's 60kg gold

In the men's 60kg competition, Malaysia's Mohamad Aniq Bin Kasdan claimed the gold medal with a Commonwealth Games record total of 273kg.

India's Rishikanta Singh Chanambam took silver with an overall total of 264kg. The Indian lifter set a Games record in the snatch with 121kg, but managed 143kg in the clean and jerk, leaving him short of the gold medal.
