A Career Defined by Boxing Legends

The boxing world is in mourning after the passing of Tommy Brooks, one of the sport’s most respected trainers. The American coach died at the age of 71 following an aggressive battle with cancer, news confirmed by promoter Lou DiBella on social media.

Although Brooks began as a national amateur champion and held a respectable professional record of 7-3, he rose to prominence as a trainer. He guided great champions such as Evander Holyfield, working with him throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, and later trained Mike Tyson after their legendary rivalry that included two iconic bouts.

Ironically, Brooks had been the man in Holyfield’s corner when he defeated Tyson in their famous encounters, only to later help “Iron Mike” in his comeback phase.

Beyond Tyson and Holyfield

Tommy Brooks’ legacy extended well beyond these two heavyweight icons. He also worked with the Ukrainian brothers Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko, contributing to a golden era for the heavyweight division.
