Shaquille O’Neal, one of the most dominant players in NBA history and a four-time world champion with the Los Angeles Lakers, is embracing a new challenge far from basketball courts—the boxing ring.

The 53-year-old recently accepted a public callout from Charlie Mack, a Philadelphia music and cultural figure and former bodyguard to actor Will Smith.

The proposed match stems from a long-standing dispute dating back several years to an incident in Dallas when O’Neal allegedly tried to cut a line at an autograph signing, prompting Mack to “chop” him in the neck to send him back. 

Taking to social media, Shaq responded with characteristic humor and confidence, acknowledging the neck chop as the reason he “talks so funny” and declaring that he’s ready for “payback time.”

“You name the time and place, I’ll be there,” O’Neal said, joking that “Diesel don’t run from nobody” and warning Mack to check his police record, reinforcing his fearless persona.

Not Shaq’s First Foray into Boxing

This is not O’Neal’s first experience with boxing. In 2009 and 2010, he participated in high-profile exhibition bouts against champions Oscar De La Hoya and Shane Mosley as part of his reality series, “Shaq Vs.”

Although he lost both fights, his efforts endeared him to fans for his entertaining and fearless attitude. His current challenge with Mack continues O’Neal’s tradition of taking on unique challenges outside of his basketball career, showcasing his competitive spirit and willingness to try new endeavors despite advancing age.
