Muhammad Ali's grandson is blowing up and sending a clear message to Dana White for trying to change the Ali Act in the middle of his $7.7 billion super business
The UFC President has found a new adversary who wants to block changes in boxing.
Dana White and TKO Group seek changes to the Muhammad Ali Act while the legend’s grandson opposes
Dana White and TKO Group are reportedly pushing for modifications to the Muhammad Ali Act, aiming to transform professional boxing into a spectacle. This initiative has sparked significant controversy in the boxing world, including opposition from Nico Ali Walsh, the grandson of the legendary Muhammad Ali.

Backed by TKO Group, the parent company of UFC and WWE, the bipartisan bill was introduced last month in the U.S. House of Representatives by Representatives Brian Jack (Republican from Georgia) and Sharice Davids (Democrat from Kansas). The proposed changes aim to modernize federal boxing regulations, revitalize the sport’s popularity in the U.S., provide greater opportunities and protections for boxers, and foster innovation in the sport.
Muhammad Ali’s grandson speaks out
The proposal has the support of the Association of Boxing Commissions (ABC) and Muhammad Ali’s widow, Lonnie Ali, but Nico Ali Walsh disagrees with the changes.
The 25-year-old shared his stance on X, sending a direct message to Dana White.
“As an Ali, I am completely against modifying the Muhammad Ali Act,” he wrote.
“My grandfather fought for this law to protect boxers from being exploited. If it’s removed, promoters take control while boxers get paid less. Keep the law and protect the boxers who risk their lives.”
While supporters of the reform argue that the update could revitalize professional boxing, critics warn that these changes could weaken fundamental protections for boxers and enable monopolistic practices similar to those seen in the UFC.
What is the Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act?
The Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act, popularly known as the Ali Act, is a U.S. federal law enacted in 2000 that amended the Professional Boxing Safety Act of 1996 to protect boxers from exploitation by promoters, agents, and regulatory commissions.
Now, the proposed Muhammad Ali American Boxing Renaissance Act seeks to continue this legacy and update the regulations, but the question remains: Is this truly the best way to protect boxing and its athletes?
