Julio César Chávez Jr. Defends His Innocence and Plans His Comeback
Julio César Chávez Jr., son of the legendary Mexican boxer, claims he’s ready to return to the ring and only needs permission to travel while his legal process continues.
Free, training, and ready to fight
Julio César Chávez Jr., 38 years old with a professional record of 54 wins (34 by knockout), 7 losses, and 1 draw, insists that his boxing career is far from over despite being under investigation. In an interview with TUDN, Chávez Jr. stated that as long as he follows legal requirements and obtains official authorization, he is allowed to travel abroad and continue boxing.
“I’m currently under investigation… we’re in the hands of the authorities. I was told I have to check in once a month and that I can leave the country or fight, as long as I get permission and do things the right way,” he said. The boxer emphasized that he’s been training since his release from jail and that boxing remains his main focus.
Defending his innocence amid serious accusations
Chávez Jr. is under investigation for alleged ties to criminal groups and arms trafficking in Mexico. However, the boxer has firmly denied any involvement in criminal activities.
“I’m not a trafficker, and everyone in Culiacán knows that. Beating people up for a cartel or that kind of thing… no. Thank God I’ve never needed to do that,” Chávez Jr. declared, defending his innocence and reiterating that he has cooperated with authorities from the beginning.
The son of the “Great Mexican Champion” also recalled the shock of his arrest in Los Angeles last July: “It was a shock to me. I never imagined I’d be detained. I went out skating and, on the second round, five patrol cars showed up. When they first arrested me, I thought, ‘They’re going to deport me, send me to my dad.’ But no… that’s where the ordeal began.”
A December comeback on the horizon
Despite his legal troubles, Julio César Chávez Jr. remains focused on his boxing career. He is expected to return to the ring on December 13 in San Luis Potosí, in an event that may also feature his brother Omar Chávez. Although his opponent has not yet been confirmed, the fighter continues to train hard for what could be his comeback fight.
His last bout before his arrest was against YouTuber Jake Paul, where he lost by unanimous decision. Before that, he had returned from rehab and defeated Uriah Hall on July 20, 2024. Chávez Jr. is determined to prove that, despite his struggles outside the ring, his passion for boxing remains as strong as ever.
