Jake Paul Won’t Let Go of Canelo Álvarez and Demands a Historic Boxing Fight
The figure of Jake Paul continues to divide opinions in the boxing world, but the American isn’t backing down from his goal: facing Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez. After the Mexican’s defeat against Terence Crawford, the influencer-turned-boxer reignited the controversy by claiming that a fight between them would be “one of the biggest bouts that could happen in boxing today.”
A fight that almost happened
This isn’t the first time the matchup has been on the table. Earlier this year, a preliminary agreement was even signed for Paul and Canelo to face off in May, but the opportunity slipped away when the Mexican chose to fight during the Riyadh Season in Saudi Arabia, where he ended up facing William Scull. Since then, the clash has been on hold, though never fully ruled out.

Paul has repeatedly stated that his plan is to build a solid path leading up to Álvarez. In recent comments he said: “After I beat this guy, Canelo is definitely on the list.”
Where things stand and what’s next
Before thinking about the Mexican star, Jake Paul has an immediate challenge: on November 14 he will step into the ring at the Kaseya Center in Miami for an exhibition bout against Gervonta “Tank” Davis. The fight is set at 195 pounds, far above Davis’s usual weight, which leaves Paul with a clear physical advantage.
Meanwhile, Canelo Álvarez is in a period of reflection after his loss to Crawford in a packed Allegiant Stadium. Although he has made it clear he’s not considering retirement and still has two fights left on his contract, his next move has yet to be confirmed.
The possible showdown with Paul continues to divide fans: for some, it would be nothing more than a meaningless media spectacle; for others, a historic opportunity to see a YouTuber-turned-boxer challenge one of the greatest champions of the past decade.
If it happens, the fight would be the biggest challenge of Jake Paul’s career and, for Canelo, a chance to prove he remains a dominant force in world boxing. For now, everything depends on results, schedules, and above all, negotiations between both camps.
