Handcuffed and Guarded: The First Images of Julio César Chávez Jr Deported to Mexico
The images no one wanted to see are now public. Julio César Chávez Jr appears handcuffed, chained, and under heavy custody after being deported to Mexico. The son of the legend now faces an uncertain future with charges linking him to drug trafficking.
A Blow to Mexican Sports
The impact is brutal: Julio César Chávez Jr, heir to the “Great Mexican Champion,” was captured in his first images after being deported to Mexico. The boxer appears handcuffed, chained, and heavily guarded, a snapshot that strikes directly at the heart of national sports and the legacy of one of boxing’s most iconic families.
The photographs surfaced just hours after it was confirmed that the former champion had been handed over by U.S. authorities to Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office (FGR), where he faces charges of organized crime and arms trafficking with alleged ties to the Sinaloa Cartel.
The Ambassador Boasts About Cooperation
What shocked even more was that the U.S. ambassador to Mexico, Ronald Johnson, shared the image on social media, highlighting the cooperation between both governments on security matters. In his post, the diplomat praised the deportation as an example of bilateral collaboration, attaching the controversial photo of the handcuffed boxer.

The ambassador’s statement emphasized that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) deported Chávez Jr so he could face justice in his home country, stressing that this action “strengthens the security of both nations.”
The Future of Chávez Jr
The big question now is what will happen to the son of the legend. After being arrested in California on July 3, shortly after his fight against Jake Paul, Chávez Jr faces a dark horizon. His attempts to regularize his stay in the U.S. through his marriage to Frida Muñoz Román, widow of Edgar Guzmán, son of El Chapo, have come to nothing.
The present shows him under custody and publicly humiliated, with an image that has already circled the globe and marks a new chapter in the downfall of one of Mexico’s most controversial boxing figures.
