From Golovkin’s Corner, They Predict How the Fight Between Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez and Terence Crawford Will Proceed
Abel Sánchez, former trainer of Gennady Golovkin, analyzes the fight between Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez and Terence Crawford. He warns that the weight difference will be key and that Canelo will impose his physical power from the early rounds.
The most anticipated fight of the year
On September 13, Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez will defend his undisputed super middleweight titles against Terence “Bud” Crawford in Las Vegas, Nevada. The American, who has dominated in lighter weight classes until now, will seek to make history by moving up three weight classes and challenging the Mexican champion on his home turf.
However, not everyone approves of this bold decision. One of them is Abel Sánchez, renowned trainer and former strategist for Gennady Golovkin, who knows firsthand what it takes to face the Mexican boxer.
Abel Sánchez and his warning: “Canelo is going to crush him.”
In an interview with Johnny Boy Boxing, Sánchez did not hesitate to predict how the fight will unfold. Although he acknowledges that Crawford will be faster in the early rounds, he warns that once Canelo starts landing his punches, the picture will be very different.
"He'll be faster in the first three or four rounds because he's faster than Canelo. But once Canelo starts hitting his arms and hitting him, it's like a huge truck hitting him," he said.
Sánchez also questioned whether Crawford will have the mobility necessary to avoid punishment in a division that is not his own: “I don't think he has the legs, especially at 168, that he had at 147.”
Previous experience against Canelo
Sánchez faced Canelo three times as Gennady Golovkin's trainer. Although the Mexican emerged victorious, each fight was a real battle that left its mark.
That experience allows him to speak clearly about what Crawford can expect in his first fight against a boxer of the size and caliber of the Guadalajara champion.
