Boxing Revolution: Canelo Álvarez's Fights Will Be Free to Watch
A major shift is coming to the world of boxing. Turki Al-Sheikh, head of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority (GEA), has officially announced the end of the Pay-Per-View (PPV) model for all fights organized under his promotion. This includes future bouts of Mexican superstar Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez.
How will the new model work?
Starting in 2025, every event promoted by Al-Sheikh will be streamed exclusively on DAZN, with no additional PPV charges. Fans will only need an active DAZN subscription—which costs approximately 199 pesos per month in Mexico—to watch top-tier fights.
“The pay-per-view model has hurt boxing, and we will no longer support it. We stand with the fans,” said Al-Sheikh after a meeting with DAZN CEO Shay Segev.
When will this change apply to Canelo?
Although this new structure takes effect in 2025, Canelo Álvarez’s next big fight—scheduled for September 2025 against Terence Crawford—will still be streamed exclusively on Netflix.
After that bout, all of Canelo’s fights under the new agreement will move to DAZN, giving fans consistent and more affordable access to his events.
What does this mean for Mexican boxing fans?
While it won’t be free-to-air TV, this shift will make elite boxing far more accessible. Fighters like Canelo Álvarez, Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz, Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramírez, William “Camarón” Zepeda, and Rafael “Divino” Espinoza will now be easier to follow across Mexico and other countries.
