Boxer Conor Benn Calls Out Ilia Topuria for Bare Knuckle Fight and Vows to Destroy Him
Conor Benn insists that any UFC fighter can challenge him, claiming he would crush them under never-before-seen conditions.
In a world where everyone is throwing out direct challenges to various figures, British boxer Conor Benn is the latest to take the "risk" of challenging a UFC fighter, in this case Ilia Topuria, though this fight would be under non-traditional conditions for both disciplines.
Everyone knows the outcome of a MMA fighter facing a boxer, with Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s near-flawless victory over Conor McGregor, one of the biggest contemporary stars in Mixed Martial Arts, as a reference.
Mayweather Jr. defeated "The Notorious" by technical knockout, leaving behind all the trash talk and challenges. But Ilia Topuria seems to be a "different beast," though very focused on the company led by Dana White.
Conor Benn’s video calling out Topuria for a fight
While Conor Benn prepares for a fight against Chris Eubank Jr. on November 15, a viral video surfaced on social media showing him brutally hitting a heavy bag with Ilia Topuria’s name written on it.
“Any of these UFC punks who want to come to boxing… dangerous game,” Benn said, before unleashing a flurry of punches on the heavy bag without gloves.
He then directly mentioned the UFC lightweight champion, claiming he’d demand about $13 million to accept the fight.
Benn added: “Any of these MMA guys who want to come to boxing… if they want some of this, they can come and get it. Bare knuckle, bare knuckle. 10 million. Sign me up, I’ll fight anyone bare knuckle.
“Any of the UFC guys… I’ve heard a lot of people talking about Ilia Topuria. Ilia, I’ve got these hands, brother.
“Disrespecting us boxers? They’re gonna pay for it. Anyone who wants this smoke, anyone who wants to come, no problem.”
That said, Benn acknowledged that while he’d take on almost anyone in the ring, he wouldn’t dare step into the octagon against an MMA fighter.
The 28-year-old boxer added: “Listen, I’m not stupid enough to get in the cage. You’ll never see me get in the cage.
“Why? Because I’d get my ass kicked in there. But for them (MMA fighters) to think they can come here and do that to us… that’s a damn disrespect.”
Benn will return to the ring on November 15 against Eubank Jr., in an event set to take place at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Meanwhile, he hasn’t heard a response from Ilia Topuria, who may not even be interested in Conor Benn, but could be eyeing a higher-profile boxer like "Canelo" Álvarez, whom the UFC champion has referenced.
In the end, we’ll have to wait to see this kind of fight, but always remember that what was supposed to be a great showdown between Mayweather Jr. and McGregor… wasn’t. It disappointed, and we all know the result.
