A New Opportunity: Julio César Chávez Jr. Will Return to the Ring After Legal Troubles
Julio César Chávez Jr. will return to the ring on December 13 in San Luis Potosí as part of the WBC's Guadalupano Tournament. The event will pay tribute to his recovery and mark his return to boxing after legal and personal problems.
The “Junior’s” Comeback: Chávez Jr. Returns to Mexican Boxing This December
Julio César Chávez Jr. will officially return to the ring on December 13 in San Luis Potosí, as part of the Guadalupan Tournament, a special event organized by the World Boxing Council (WBC).
The announcement was made during a press conference where Mauricio Sulaimán, president of the WBC, and Julio César Chávez Sr., the legendary “Great Mexican Champion”, confirmed the “Junior’s” comeback after years of personal and professional ups and downs.
“Now that we’re here, my son Julio will make his reappearance on December 13 in San Luis Potosí, and he told me it’s going to be something really great,” said the former world champion with a smile.
The return of the Mexican icon’s son comes after his defeat to Jake Paul and his legal troubles for alleged ties to organized crime and arms trafficking. However, the WBC is betting on giving him a new opportunity to redeem himself in front of the Mexican public.
WBC Honors His Fight Outside the Ring With a Special Belt
Beyond the sporting spectacle, the World Boxing Council aims to turn Chávez Jr.’s return into a symbol of hope and personal redemption.
Mauricio Sulaimán announced the creation of a special Guadalupan commemorative belt, honoring the “Junior’s” rehabilitation and recovery process after his long battle with addiction.
“Chávez Junior has been a hero after his addictions. He has gone through a great recovery process, and we are standing in his corner,” said Sulaimán.
The event will be an exhibition fight, conceived as a tribute to faith, perseverance, and the bond between Mexican boxing and the Virgin of Guadalupe, a deeply rooted spiritual figure within the country’s boxing community.
Julio César Chávez Defends His Son and Denies Links to Organized Crime
During the press conference, Julio César Chávez Sr. took the opportunity to clarify the rumors surrounding his son, assuring that his only goal is to keep him focused and away from controversy.
“My son has never been a criminal or anything like that. I just want him to stay clean, focused, and for people to see that his passion has always been boxing,” he stated firmly.
The former champion also emphasized that his son’s comeback carries a deeper purpose: to regain the discipline and focus that once took him to the top.
A New Chance for Redemption Before Mexico
After several years of inactivity, Julio César Chávez Jr. is training hard for his big return, seeking to prove that he still has what it takes to shine in the ring.
His last appearance left doubts about his sporting future, but the Guadalupan Tournament could mark the beginning of a new chapter. With the support of the WBC, his father, and his fans, the “Junior” now has the chance to rebuild his legacy and regain the respect of the boxing world.
For the WBC, this event will be more than just a fight — it will be a celebration of faith, perseverance, and redemption, with Chávez Jr. standing as the symbol of a second chance.
