The Lakers are currently operating under the belief that LeBron James could return around mid-November. ESPN’s Shams Charania has reported the organization is sticking to the timeline set three weeks ago, when James’s return was projected for this window.

The 41-year-old legend has been battling sciatica, missing the season’s start, yet maintains his sights on a swift recovery. Lakers officials suggest the next milestone is for James to resume five-on-five play.

While he is not accompanying the team on their five-game road trip (the last of which wraps up November 15 in Milwaukee), James could potentially work out with the South Bay Lakers, the franchise’s G League affiliate, in the interim.​

Lakers Stand Tall In James’s Absence

Despite LeBron’s absence, the Lakers have surged to a 7-2 record, a testament to the team’s offseason roster moves and their depth.

Luka Dončić, acquired last season, is putting on a stunning offensive performance, averaging 41.3 points per game, while Austin Reaves has chipped in with 31.1 points a night. 

Their efforts have kept the Lakers in a competitive position and allowed James room to recover instead of rushing back. The signings of Jake LaRavia, Deandre Ayton and Marcus Smart have helped cushion the roster while the team’s heart and soul rehabs for his anticipated debut.​
