Stephen Curry Opens Up About Injury, No Miracle Return for Game 5
Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry has ruled himself out for Game 5 of their second-round playoff series against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Stephen Curry acknowledged the severity of his hamstring injury and shut down any hopes of a miraculous return just ahead of Game 5. With the Warriors trailing 3-1 and facing elimination, Curry’s absence leaves the team without their offensive leader at a critical moment.
Following the Warriors’ 117-110 loss in Game 4 on May 12, Warriors forward Draymond Green tempered expectations about Curry’s availability, telling reporters, “We’re not going to Superman this thing. If he can [play], he will.”
But Curry was clear and candid when asked about the possibility of suiting up for Game 5 on May 14.
“Even if I wanted to be Superman, I couldn’t,” Curry told reporters. He emphasized that despite his competitive spirit, the injury simply won’t allow him to play. Curry also noted that he won’t know more about his hamstring until his next medical evaluation, but he does not expect to be available for the upcoming game.
Stephen Curry’s Injury and Its Impact
Curry suffered a Grade 1 hamstring strain during Game 1 of the series against the Minnesota Timberwolves, forcing him out early and sidelining him ever since. The Warriors initially hoped for a quick recovery, but the injury has lingered longer than expected.
Without Curry’s scoring and leadership, Golden State has struggled, dropping three straight games and now facing elimination for Game 5. In Game 3, they were outscored by seven points in the second half, and in Game 4, they fell behind by nine points in the final period. Curry’s absence has been felt acutely on both ends of the floor.
What This Means for the Warriors
With Curry sidelined, the Warriors will rely heavily on veterans like Draymond Green and emerging stars to try to extend the series. The pressure is immense, as a loss in Game 5 would end Golden State’s season.
While there remains a chance Curry could return if the series extends to Game 6 or beyond, his immediate availability for Game 5 is off the table.
