NBA 2026: All the Teams Eliminated From the Playoffs
The race to the 2026 NBA Playoffs already has casualties… and some are shocking. Historic franchises are out and now face an uncertain future heading into next season.
The playoff race enters its most ruthless stage
The 2026 NBA season is entering its final stretch, and while some teams are celebrating clinching their spots, others have already been officially eliminated. The fight for the championship is heating up, but it’s also exposing stories of failure, injuries, and questionable decisions that will shape the future of several franchises.
The current league standings, 10 teams no longer have any chance of reaching the postseason, not even through the Play-In Tournament. This turns the end of the regular season into a testing ground for young talent… or the beginning of urgent rebuilds.
Key dates are already set: the Play-In Tournament will take place from April 14 to April 17, the first round tips off on April 18, and the NBA Finals will begin on June 3. But for some teams, the season is already over.
These are all the teams eliminated from the 2026 NBA Playoffs
The list of eliminated teams includes both rebuilding franchises and others that simply collapsed when it mattered most.
Western Conference:
- Memphis Grizzlies (25-51)
- New Orleans Pelicans (25-52)
- Dallas Mavericks (24-52)
- Utah Jazz (21-56)
- Sacramento Kings (20-57)
Eastern Conference:
- Milwaukee Bucks (30-46)
- Chicago Bulls (29-39)
- Indiana Pacers (18-58)
- Brooklyn Nets (18-58)
- Washington Wizards (17-59)
Among them, there are especially shocking cases. The Milwaukee Bucks, for example, miss the playoffs for the first time in a decade, ending a streak that had kept them among the league’s contenders. Meanwhile, the Indiana Pacers go from being a top team to one of the worst in the league.
Injuries, crisis, and decisions: the reasons behind the collapse
There isn’t a single explanation for this collective downfall, but there are clear patterns. Injuries have played a major role: the absence of key players like Tyrese Haliburton, Ja Morant, and Zion Williamson left their teams without identity or competitive direction.
In other cases, the issues were structural. The Dallas Mavericks never managed to solidify their project, while the Brooklyn Nets and Washington Wizards remain stuck in rebuilds that have yet to deliver results.
Perhaps the most shocking case is that of the Milwaukee Bucks, where the absence of Giannis Antetokounmpo combined with a poor run of form ultimately doomed their season. According to recent reports, the team lost consistency at the worst possible time, piling up losses that pushed them completely out of contention.
The playoff picture moving forward
While some teams are eliminated, others are dominating. In the West, the Oklahoma City Thunder (61-16) and San Antonio Spurs (59-18) set the pace as top contenders, followed by strong teams like the Los Angeles Lakers and Denver Nuggets.
In the East, the Detroit Pistons (56-21) have been the biggest surprise, with the Boston Celtics and New York Knicks close behind.
