LeBron James will play in Philadelphia, but will he live in another city?
A life divided between two cities
There is a possibility that LeBron could make New York his main base during his new chapter in the Eastern Conference.
The plan would require the four-time NBA champion to travel regularly between New York and Philadelphia, cities separated by approximately 130 kilometers in a straight line.
The journey by road can take more than an hour and a half depending on traffic, so one possibility would be for James to make some of his trips by helicopter, significantly reducing travel time. However, for now, the idea remains nothing more than a rumor.
A historic precedent in Philadelphia
Although the scenario may seem unusual, LeBron would not be the first star from a Philadelphia franchise to choose to live in New York.
During the 1960s, Wilt Chamberlain lived near Central Park while playing for the Philadelphia Warriors. The legendary center traveled constantly between the two cities and spent much of his social life in Harlem.
His routine even reportedly influenced the team’s planning, with some practices moved to later times to accommodate the player’s rest schedule.
New York once again surrounds LeBron’s future
The speculation has also reignited conversations about the veteran player’s relationship with the city and the interest in the New York Knicks that has been attributed to him at different points in his career.
However, there is no information suggesting that his possible residence is connected to a potential basketball move. LeBron is already officially part of the 76ers and is preparing to play his 24th NBA season.
A new challenge alongside the Sixers’ stars
LeBron will join a team featuring stars such as Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey and Jaylen Brown, a combination that has quickly raised expectations around Philadelphia.
The 41-year-old averaged 20.9 points during the 2025-26 season and will look to win the fifth championship of his career during one of the final stages of his historic journey through the league.
For now, his possible move to New York remains purely speculative. However, a routine divided between Manhattan and Philadelphia would add an unexpected chapter to a career that, even after more than two decades, continues to find new ways to attract attention.
