LeBron James questions his NBA return and hints at retirement
LeBron James admitted on Wednesday, after the painful elimination of his Los Angeles Lakers in the playoffs, that he’s unsure how much longer he’ll stay on the court. At 40 years old, the veteran just finished his 22nd season in the NBA and left the door open to a possible farewell.
Deep reflection with his inner circle
“I’ll sit down with my family, my wife, and my close circle to talk it through and see what happens. Then I’ll also have a conversation with myself about how long I want to keep playing,” James said during the press conference. “Honestly, I don’t have the answer right now,” he added.
When asked about the Lakers’ potential moves in the upcoming transfer market, James was direct: “Honestly, I’ve got a lot to think about regarding myself, so I don’t know what the roster will look like. I don’t know, really, where I’m at right now.”
Painful elimination against Minnesota
The Lakers were knocked out with a 1-4 series loss in the first round to the Minnesota Timberwolves, who won 96-103 in Game 5 in Los Angeles. In that game, LeBron James posted 22 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists — but it wasn’t enough to avoid elimination.
The veteran forward admitted feeling frustrated about not going further in the postseason: “Every season where I haven’t made the Finals or won the championship has felt like a disappointment.” Once again, an early playoff exit leaves a bitter taste for one of basketball’s all-time greats.
