Pittsburgh Steelers Win Historic NFL Game in Ireland
The Pittsburgh Steelers made history by defeating the Minnesota Vikings in the first official NFL game held in Ireland, with a brilliant performance from Aaron Rodgers and a relentless defense at Dublin’s Croke Park.
Rodgers and the Defense Lead the Way
The Pittsburgh Steelers, led by Aaron Rodgers, edged the Minnesota Vikings 24-21 this Sunday in Dublin, marking the first-ever NFL regular-season game played in Ireland.
With this result, the Steelers moved into fourth place in the AFC North Division with a 3-1 record.
The Vikings, now 2-2, dropped to the bottom of the NFC North standings.
Rodgers delivered a standout performance, completing 18 of 22 passes for 200 yards and throwing a touchdown pass to DK Metcalf.
On the ground, Kenneth Gainwell impressed with 99 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
The Pittsburgh defense was also decisive, intercepting Carson Wentz twice and sacking him six times, keeping the Minnesota offense under constant pressure.
An International Event That Sets a Precedent
Halftime entertainment featured British singer Myles Smith, known for hits like “Solo”, “My Home”, and “Stargazing”.
Notable figures in attendance included Jason Kelce, a Philadelphia Eagles legend; actor Bill Murray; rugby star Bundee Aki; and Katie McCabe, Arsenal player and captain of Ireland’s women’s national team.
The NFL scheduled seven international games this season.
In Week 1, the Los Angeles Chargers defeated the Kansas City Chiefs 27-21 in São Paulo.
Along with this historic clash in Dublin, three more games are set for London, one in Berlin, and another in Madrid on November 16, when the Miami Dolphins face the Washington Commanders.
Week 4 kicked off with the Seattle Seahawks defeating the Arizona Cardinals 23-20.
This Sunday features headline matchups including the undefeated Tampa Bay Buccaneers against the Philadelphia Eagles, as well as the Baltimore Ravens, led by Lamar Jackson, against the Kansas City Chiefs of Patrick Mahomes.
The Dallas Cowboys will also take on the Green Bay Packers.
The action wraps up Monday with two games: Dolphins-Jets and Broncos-Bengals.
