The Australian No.1 needed all three sets to see off his Canadian opponent, eventually winning through 7-6 (10-8) 4-6 6-3 to set up a meeting with Karen Khachanov, who beat Brazil's young gun Joao Fonseca 6-1 3-6 6-3.
De Minaur won four out of the 10 break points he manufactured against Diallo, but struggled with his own service game, coughing up nine break points to his opponent and only managing to land 51 per cent of his first serves across the course of the match.
But after losing the second set, he settled well in the final stanza to see out a victory that helps his case for Turin enormously.
De Minaur is currently seventh in the world rankings with the top eight going through to Turin, but the race for the last three places is a tight one, with Lorenzo Musetti and Felix Auger-Aliassime close behind the Australian.
But Musetti fell to Taylor Fritz in Paris, allowing the American to stamp his ticket to the Finals as the fifth confirmed participant, alongside Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev abnd Novak Djokovic.
Ninth-placed Auger-Aliassime trailed Musetti by 390 points ahead of the Round of 32 and he faces Daniel Altmaier next in Paris to see if he can close to gap and pinsh the final spot for Turin.
